Giuseppe\u00a0 Verdi\u2019s\u00a0 <\/span><\/em><\/strong>Requiem<\/span> \u2013 A Gala Presentation<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/strong>Chorus\u00a0 <\/span>Niagara<\/span>,\u00a0 <\/span>Niagara<\/span>\u2019s\u00a0 premier 100-voice choral ensemble, with Artistic Director Robert Cooper, present\u00a0 Giuseppe Verdi\u2019s masterwork <\/span>Requiem<\/span> Saturday May 4th<\/sup>, <\/span>7:30pm<\/span>,\u00a0 at the historic Lake Street Armoury,\u00a0 <\/span>81\u00a0 Lake Street<\/span>,\u00a0 <\/span>St.\u00a0 Catharines<\/span>.\u00a0 Audiences are invited to attend a\u00a0 post-concert reception for the historic lighting of Chorus Niagara\u2019s\u00a0 50th<\/sup> Anniversary Candles and to enjoy a sample of the anniversary\u00a0 celebration cake.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

This\u00a0 50th<\/sup> Anniversary season finale features over 200 singers and\u00a0 instrumentalists and showcases a brilliant quartet of Canadian Opera stars.\u00a0 Joining the 100 voices of Chorus Niagara\u00a0 are Choralis Camerata and Chorus Niagara\u2019s Community and\u00a0 <\/span><\/em><\/strong>Side-by-Side<\/span>High\u00a0 School<\/span> Chorales.\u00a0 The Niagara Symphony\u00a0 Orchestra accompanies the massed choir. This gala performance celebrates not\u00a0 only the Golden Anniversary of Chorus Niagara, but also the 200th<\/sup> anniversary of the birth of Giuseppe Verdi,\u00a0 <\/span>Italy<\/span>\u2019s\u00a0 most celebrated operatic composer.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/strong>Audiences\u00a0 will be dazzled by a Canadian superstar operatic quartet, comprised of Leslie\u00a0 Ann Bradley, soprano; Anita Krause, mezzo-soprano; David Pomeroy, tenor and\u00a0 Stephen Hegedus, bass-baritone.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Leslie\u00a0 Ann Bradley, soprano<\/span><\/em><\/strong>,\u00a0 possesses a voice described as \u2018<\/span>warm,\u00a0 voluptuous and beautifully expressive\u2019<\/span>.\u00a0 Opera <\/span>Canada<\/span> has described her as \u2018<\/span>A\u00a0 stylish singer that recalled a young Renee Fleming<\/span>.\u2019\u00a0 Equally at home in opera, concert and recital, Ms. Bradley has performed with\u00a0 the Calgary Philharmonic, Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, Toronto Opera in Concert,\u00a0 Brott Summer Music Festival, Boston Midsummer Opera, Toronto Operetta Theatre\u00a0 and the Aldeburgh Connection.\u00a0 A\u00a0 graduate of the <\/span>University<\/span> of <\/span>Toronto\u00a0 Opera Program<\/span> with a Master\u2019s Degree, Ms. Bradley is also the winner of several prestigious\u00a0 awards. She has appeared on BRAVO television in \u2018<\/span>Love\u00a0 Story\u2019<\/span> and recorded two episodes of \u2018<\/span>Opera\u00a0 Easy\u2019 <\/span>for\u00a0 BRAVO.<\/span><\/p>\n

Verdi\u2019s\u00a0 <\/span><\/em><\/strong>Requiem<\/span> was first performed in <\/span>Milan <\/span>Italy<\/span> in May of 1874.\u00a0 It was composed in\u00a0 memory of Italian poet and novelist Alessandro Manzoni, who was much admired by\u00a0 Verdi.\u00a0 Giuseppe Verdi is the\u00a0 composer of many well-known operas including <\/span>Nabucco,\u00a0 Rigoletto, Aida, Otello<\/span> and <\/span>Falstaff<\/span>,\u00a0 favourites of opera companies around the world today.\u00a0 <\/span>Requiem<\/span>,\u00a0 was a departure for the composer, who was considered to be an agnostic.\u00a0 Verdi\u2019s operatic style lent a complex\u00a0 and theatrical flair to the Mass format, making it a dramatic audience\u00a0 favourite.<\/span><\/p>\n
