Niagara
Falls - perhaps, best known as
one of the natural wonders of
the world. Niagara Falls
consists of two waterfalls
situated on the Niagara River
(which forms the border between
the Province of Ontario in
Canada and New York State in
America). The Canadian Horseshoe
Falls is 170 feet or 52 meters
high and is 2,500 feet or 750
meters wide. The American Falls
is 180 feet or 55 meters high
and 1,100 feet or 330 meters
across.
It
is estimated that 12,000 years
ago, immediately following the
end of the last ice age, when
the falls were formed, the edge
of the falls was as much as
seven miles further down river
than it is today.
